Please come if you can to BYO’s production of A Night at the Chinese Opera by Judith Weir. It’s at the Peacock Theatre, just off Kingsway. It would be great to see some familiar faces!
Rehearsals start soon for British Youth Opera’s production of A Night at the Chinese Opera by Judith Weir. Performances are at the Peacock Theatre in London on the 12th and 15th September, and I’m singing the role of Chao Lin. It’s a beautiful score, full of dramatic moments and striking sounds. I’m singing with the pianist James Cheung on Thursday 26th *JULY!* at St Olave’s Church, London, in a lunchtime Lieder recital starting at 1.05 pm. Admission is free, and the programme consists of some of the greatest songs in the German language.
We’ll be performing Schubert’s Heine settings (as found in Schwanengesang) and Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder, together with songs from Schumann’s Op. 36.
The address is 8 Hart Street City of London, EC3R 7NB.
I’ve uploaded a few photos from productions at johnnyherford.com/photos, updated johnnyherford.com/performances, and added a new page: johnnyherford.com/reviews. Please have a look.
Busy fortnight coming up! Please come to any/all of the concerts listed at johnnyherford.com/performances. Wonderful Mozart and Handel with great colleagues in beautiful venues.
I’m singing Papageno in the RAM’s production of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte on the 12th and 16th of this month. If you can’t get tickets for that, please come to my dress rehearsal on Friday the 9th, beginning at 6pm (it might be quite full, so turning up early would be a good idea).
I’ve added some mp3s to the audio page, so please have a listen. There is a selection of songs from Winterreise, with William Vann at the piano, and two arias from the Coffee Cantata by Bach, with the RAM Baroque Ensemble conducted by Iain Ledingham.
On Thursday the 8th December I’ll be performing Schubert’s cycle Winterreise with Will Vann at the Forge in Camden. It starts at 7.30 and it would be great to have a full house!
